CLASS: Making Fresh Mozzarella Virtual Class

SOLD OUT

Virtual Fresh Mozzarella Class is a Zoom-based, hands-on class taught by Dave Potter, owner of Madison's only cheesemaking-supply store, GetCulture Inc. During this action-packed 90-minute workshop, participants will follow along live to make a batch of fresh mozz as the instructor talks about the basic science and chemistry of making mozzarella. This class will focus on the citric-acid method of making mozz, but we will discuss the cultured mozzarella process as well. Class size is limited, save your spot today!

When: Sunday February 21, 2021 @ 2:00PM Central Time

Where: Zoom (link and additional details will be sent a few days prior to class)

Who: One registration fee covers your entire household -- no need to purchase multiple class registrations if more than one person in your house would like to take part. This class is appropriate for adults as well as children age 8+ with adult assistance & supervision.

What you'll need: Course fee does not include supplies; if you would like to make cheese along with us, below is a list of what you will need. Links provided where applicable:

Ingredients

Equipment

  • Pot - large enough to comfortably hold 1/2 gallon milk, stainless steel if possible (if you can, a double boiler-type setup works best for even heating of milk)
  • Long knife or icing spatula
  • Perforated mixing spoon
  • Measuring spoons & cups
  • Medium to large mixing bowl
  • Accurate thermometer (guidelines here)
  • Clean rubber gloves -- should be relatively thick rubber, such as the kind used for washing dishes, since their purpose is to protect your hands from relatively hot water during the stretch stage
  • Sanitizing method of your choice (guidelines here)
  • Last but not least, an internet-connected computer or tablet that you can see & hear from your kitchen!

Important note about ordering supplies: Due to various factors, we've been seeing transit delays with USPS Priority Mail. If you choose this method of shipping for supplies, we urge you to order at least ten days before class, or choose another shipping method (we've had better luck with FedEx).
