How much wax is needed to coat 3 to 5 lbs of cheese?
It takes approximately 1.5 oz of wax to cover about 2lbs of cheese in a coating. Hope this answer helps!

What are the ingrediants of your wax-is it 100% beeswax?
      Hi Carol,
Our wax is not beeswax; it is the more commonly used in cheesemaking "Paramelt," which has special polymers added to keep the wax from cracking. The wax we carry is a mixture of refined hydrocarbon waxes, polymers and (if colored) pigment.
      Thanks!

Are your cheese waxes certified kosher? I've noticed a great many of your other products are, and I'm excited to get started making cheeses.
That is a great question Judith. I actually had to wait for an answer from our distributor and the answer is, no our wax is not certified kosher. If there is kosher wax I don't know where to purchase the product.
      Take care.

This cheese wax works great, but it needs to be heated to 220 degrees. When we were following the recommendation to only heat to 150, we were getting a LOT of mold growth on our cheeses as they aged.

I forget where I read it, maybe New England cheese. They recommend heating to 230 degrees to kill any mold. I use my thermometer. And my understanding is that the flash point for this wax is about 400 degrees, so the risk of fire is 170 degrees away.
